Your Feedback Matters

You ask, we answer:

Why are practically all of the pre-bookable (online) appointments with the Paramedics only and no Dr slots? If its a pre-bookable future appointment it may very well be for something chronic or longstanding which is outside the practice scope of the Paramedics. Why are there no pre-bookable appointments to see a GP (PREFERABLY YOUR OWN) about something longstanding? I thought the Paramedics were supposed to be for new acute problems.

Pre-bookable GP appointments are available, but due to high demand they are being booked very quickly. We understand your concerns regarding the availability of pre-bookable GP appointments and are continually reviewing our appointment system.

Attended the surgery with a 18month old baby to be told the surgery was on red alert. However the car park had 2 cars parked and the wait room was empty.

There were at least 2 gp on site that could have seen an unwell toddler rather than sending them to A&E to wait multiple hours. In my profession the GDC would have had a field day had I declined to see a patient in an emergency. I understand the red alert situation but there should be some form of flexibility, especially regarding young children.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience, particularly given how stressful it can be when an 18-month-old is unwell.

When a surgery is placed on “red alert,” this relates to clinical capacity and patient safety. Although there may have been GP’s on site, they may already have been managing complex cases or urgent home visits etc. In these situations, directing patients to A&E ensures they can be assessed promptly in a setting equipped to manage potentially serious conditions in young children.

We absolutely understand your point about flexibility, especially where very young children are concerned. Patient safety is always our priority, and decisions during red alert periods are made to ensure that anyone seen can be assessed safely and appropriately.
