Minutes of last meeting (July 2022)

Approved.

No meeting was held in September following the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

News from the Practice

Claire reported that Luke Barnes has resigned from the Practice; his place has been taken by Cameron Cater.

The Joint Flu and Coronavirus Vaccinations commenced last Saturday; they ran smoothly.

The Government want to legislate that all GP practices open every weekend. Currently Westbank opens two weekends each month.

We are going to be asked to complete a survey regarding the practice working weekends, to get the views from the PPG group on the proposal.

News from Westbank HLC

Nina detailed the plans for ‘Warm Welcome Westbank’, at WHLC Exminster for locals to come into a warm space in cold weather, with light refreshments, the occasional speakers, advice on services, covid training, community cooking and children’s meals. A Warm Welcome Westbank is also planned for Starcross These will take place in the Pavilion.  A leaflet is to follow.

Natalie Follows – Social Prescribing Link worker

Natalie has been appointed the Community Link person, to action ‘Social Prescribing’ for patients referred by the doctors; to individually identify their needs and recommend suitable activities to assist them. She operating on Tuesdays at the Starcross Surgery.

Kerry Good – Care and Dementia Ambassador

Kerry was unable to attend the meeting.

There are courses available for Carers covering Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

The Sensory Gardens were highlighted, situated at the Westbank HLC site and at Kenton allotments.

CAB has links signposting Charities that can support carers.

Parish Council & Local Building updates

Nothing to report.

PPG Promotion

We had a wide-ranging discussion on updating the Constitution.

Val Stanley volunteered to pull together a new model, taking on the updating of the wording and information in the document. This will be presented at our next meeting as ‘Terms of Reference 2022’.

Points arising from the discussion.

We need to ask the Practice what are their views on the Terms of Reference and how we can work together.

We need to express the purpose of the PPG, detailed as Key Tasks and Objectives.

Correspondence

None

AOB

VAS raised a problem regarding repeat prescriptions on line. The problem is that when a note in the box at the foot of the order page is entered, it erases details of the medicines ordered. An IT problem for Cam.
AL suggested that regular editorials on the Group’s activity are submitted to the Village Newsletters to inform patients of the work of the WPPG.

Welcome packs to new residents were discussed but deemed as not practical, due to the involvement of Estate Agents.

Susan highlighted the opportunity for people to help lookout for persons living on their own. She recognised a need to help them join together for friendship and she has organised a meeting in Kenton Village Hall on 18th October 2.00 to 4.00pm. A flier was circulated to publicise this event. Ongoing meetings are planned.

There is duplication of invites for Flu and Covid Vaccinations in the form of texts, Emails and letters. This arises specially when a patient has already booked or received the vaccination. A system needed to avoid this communication overload.

It was suggested that a speaker, possibly one of our local Pharmacists, be invited to a meeting to talk about the additional duties that they have taken to relieve Doctor’s time.
